Golf Sixes Success

Golf Sixes was a step into the unknown for Worldwide Hole ‘n One, but it didn’t take long for us to realize what a fantastic, enjoyable, exciting event we were a part of. From the booming introductions on the first tee, to the gasps and cheers on the 5th green – the entire weekend had an air of excitement, really showcasing what Golf has to offer.

The 5th Hole, a short but challenging par 3 was the home to our Hole In One Challenge. Not all came close, but those that did, came very close. Check out this video to see just how close French Golfer Romain Wattell came to an ace. A hole in one the 5th would have netted a £6,000 donation to the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity (https://www.royalmarsden.org/). It wasn’t just the Pro’s who came close however, a few of the amateurs who were taking part in a Beat the Pro challenge on the hole weren’t far off, and had one of the shots found the hole not only would the charity receive a cash donation, but a trip for two to the Ryder Cup would be going to the Amateur!

Whilst the sun shined down out on the course, there was more fun to be had over in the fan park. Food, drink, music and more importantly – Golf! Skills challenges were set up where children and adults alike tested themselves with a putting, longest drive, nearest to pin and other challenges. We hosted a Golf Simulator, with a Hole In One Challenge. Anyone who aced the 167 yard hole won a trip for two to the Ryder Cup, and also a £6,000 donation to charity. The closest attempt was just two feet away! The simulator was challenging, and a fair few attempts actually went further away from the hole than where they started – and one unlucky shot ended up on the simulated beach adjacent to the hole! It was a great sight to see the Dad’s brining their son’s in for a go on the simulator, only for them to get more excited and have a go themselves! Over 10,000 people came to the event, more than double last year’s attendance!

Ireland Win!

Ireland Win!

Ireland emerged as winners of the tournament, after defeating France in the final, but the real victory came for Golf itself, which experienced a refreshing uplift.  England’s Eddie Pepperall tweeted -

“thanks to @EuropeanTour for allowing me to be part of GolfSixes. Haven’t had that much fun on a golf course for a long time. Brilliant to get the women involved. Pleasure also to partner @mattsjwallace… Easy game from where he drives it. Great to see so many kids too.”
